PHF Housing & Rederivation The goal of the OUHSC is to have all mouse breeder colonies housed in the Rodent Barrier Facility (RBF), a resource designed to provide enhanced biosecurity for valuable breeding animals. The RBF has a rigid bioexclusion list. (See http://www.ouhsc.edu/Compmed/documents/RBFRodentQuarantineSOP.pdf ) Many animals received from collaborating institutions do not meet this standard and must be rederived. Rederivation will “clean up” these animals of bioexclusion pathogens so they are eligible for entrance into the RBF quarantine. The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center does not have core assets to rederive animals. This has encouraged a relationship with the Laboratory Animal Research Center at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. This group does have rederivation capability.
For in-house animals to be rederived go to OUHSC Rederivation General Protocol. For imported mice to be rederived or for short term studies with imported mice go to OUHSC Rederivation Non-Approved Vendor General Protocol.
