Laboratory
Inspections
The
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is charged
by the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) and the USDA
Animal Welfare Regulations to inspect at least once every six
months all of the institution's facilities for activities involving
animals. Compliance is necessary for all institutions performing
animal research as well as for continuation of our NIH Assurance
and for continued AAALAC International accreditation.
The
IACUC requires that you maintain a notebook or set of files that
contain copies of your active protocols, correspondence related
to those protocols, and any documentation relating to investigator/research
technician training. This notebook should be kept in the
laboratory where animal research is being conducted.
The
IACUC Adminstrive Assistant will be contacting each Primary Investigator,
that holds approved protocols with the IACUC, twice a year to
fulfill these inspection requirements.
