Normal anatomy: The cross section of the eyelid shows from anterior to posterior: epidermis, dermis, orbicularis oculi, aponeurosis of the levator, tarsal plate and conjunctiva. The anterior lamallae consists of the the skin and orbicularis muscle whereas the posterior lamallae is the tarsal plate and conjunctiva. Note the numerous meibomian glands within the tarsal plate.
