If you think that science research in the laboratory is your favorite,

* Major in biology or chemistry or biochemistry.

* Take courses with a laboratory section as well as basic computer use.

* See if you can get a work/study job or thesis project or research position (part-time) to participate in lab work (ask guidance counselors - this may be during the summer or the school year).

* Some of the higher level jobs require a Masters (M.S. -2 years) or a Doctorate (Ph.D. -4 to 6 years). When you are a junior, check into the job market (WWW, newspaper, guidance counselor, job search sites) or graduate school.

Please note that many scientists have dual roles (for example, experiments and business negotiations) in the Biotech world. Additionally, a scientist may also switch careers later in life; the lab experience sure helps!
