POEM EXCERPT

In despair, I hung my head,
Lost in life's chaotic sound
Until in the loneliness of the night.
Suddenly I was found.

-The Quest for Self by Patrick McVey

Blood and Thunder is an arts journal published by the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.

In 2001, a group of first year medical students created Blood and Thunder in response to an elective course entitled Literature in Medicine. Since then, the annual publication has grown to include poetry, short stories, visual art, and other works from all over the world. The publication is completely managed by the medical student members of the editorial board.

An example of the College of Medicine’s interest in the humanities, the journal continues to be a creative outlet for the expression of thoughts and emotions associated with the healthcare experience.

It is the goal and purpose of Blood and Thunder to enhance the education of healthcare professionals through the exploration of art and to serve the community as a means for artistic expression.

"I am confident you will enjoy the wide range of thought-provoking and touching moments that await you in these 'musings on the art of medicine'. "

M. Dewayne Andrews, M.D., MACP--
Executive Dean, College of Medicine
