Abstract: A number of infectious disease treatment guidelines have been published detailing the appropriate use of antibiotics.  Research has demonstrated suboptimal compliance with guidelines; however, previous studies have not evaluated the impact that practice-setting may have on guideline concordance. Utilizing 2006-2010 data from the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, this cross-sectional study of patients diagnosed with acute otitis media, urinary tract infections, pharyngitis, or bronchitis, evaluated variations in antibiotic treatment between patients seen at a Private Physician practice versus a Community Health Center, two disparate practice environments. Results describing the relationship between practice-setting and guideline concordance will be presented.
