Please join us for the rescheduled* performance of “The Fence” which gives the audience a “fly-on-the-wall” look at a mock- academic department engaged in a promotion and tenure review meeting. “The Fence,” a one-act play, presented by the University of Michigan’s CRLT Players, invites audience members into a department's promotion and tenure committee meeting.  Committee members’ views are split and arguments are made both for and against the candidate. Audience members are invited to “hear” the thoughts and see the potential fireworks as the meeting unfolds. A debrief with cast members examines the issues and opens the floor for discussion about how to recognize and more effectively handle unconscious bias.

Ready to check the state of your own “unconscious bias”?  Before the program visit Harvard University’s Implicit Association Test (IAT) website at for insight on your implicit associations with race, gender, sexual orientation, as well as other topics.

RSVP Required:  Simply click here to RSVP for The Fence with your name, department and email no later than Friday, September 5, 2014.  Space is limited.  Thank you!

This event is co-sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs & Faculty Development, Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of the Dean of the Graduate College, and the OUHSC iWin Team.
