Diagnosis

In the primary care setting, diagnosis is usually based on the history, physical exam, and basic tests, including urinalysis, urine C&S, and PVR. Other simple urodynamic tests may also be done in an office setting. It will be possible to classify most uncomplicated cases into functional, stress, urge, and overflow on this basis and to begin initial therapy. Because the history of incontinence may not be volunteered, it is helpful to ask screening questions for older patients routinely.
