Acute Necrotizing Gingivitis

Also called "Vincent’s Infection"

 

Etiology:        Fusiform and spirochete microorganisms

 

Description:  Components of normal flora invade gingival tissue when resistance is decreased secondary to stress, poor diet, and illnesses. Blunting of interdental papilla and halitosis is present.

Treatment Planning:

  • Antibiotics if lymphadenopathy is present.

  • Instruct on brushing & flossing after dental debridement.

  • Chlorhexidine oral rinse.
