Summer Scholars Immersion in Gerontology and Geriatrics

The Summer Scholars Immersion in Gerontology and Geriatrics (SSIGG) was created to offer current OUHSC students a paid, ten-week, intensive, summer experience in several aspects of aging research, education, and clinical service.

The Summer Scholars experience includes:

  • aging-related research
  • clinical shadowing
  • case-based learning sessions
  • didactic sessions
  • self-learning
  • program evaluation exercises
  • interdisciplinary engagement
  • Geriatric Medicine faculty mentorship

The program encourages students to consider career paths in clinical geriatrics and/or aging research.  Selected students may work with one or more OUHSC faculty on specific projects, predominantly clinical and health-services related.  Summer Scholars are valued as responsible peers.  Prior experience in research is not a requirement.
