Since her Oklahoma arrival in May 2006, Dr. Kyawt K. Ayee has scrambled to secure housing, fill out heaps of paper forms, and learn to navigate her way through our campus maze of hospitals, towers and buildings. In spite of the heat, which she quietly states she doesn’t mind, Dr. Ayee (pronounced like the hard A in "Ace") is quickly adjusting to her life in the Sooner State.

Dr. Ayee began life in the warm country of Burma and graduated from the Institute of Medicine in Rangoon. Following a brother and a sister who preceded her move to North American (her brother lives in Canada and a sister in California), she worked first in Canada and then Brooklyn, New York. She moved to Washington, D.C. where she completed her internal medicine residency at George Washington University.

Because she feels comfortable with seniors along with an appreciation for the varied aspects of their life experiences, she selected geriatrics as her specialty area. Dr. Ayee completed a geriatrics fellowship at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. She is board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine. When she finished her training, she joined a private practice setting in a Florida retirement community. Even though she enjoyed working in the private sector, Dr. Ayee longed to move to an academic setting where she would not only treat patients, but would be offered opportunities for teaching and research.

In spite of her hectic first two-months in Oklahoma City, Dr. Ayee tries to find time to swim everyday and hopes do some backpacking in Oklahoma. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ayee to the Reynolds Department of Geriatric Medicine and to the Senior Health Center where seniors can schedule appointments with her at 271-3050.
