Fellowship Clinical Training
A wide diversity of patients receive care at the OU Medical Center, from the fit and independent to the oldest-old, frail, and dependent. Most social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds are represented.
- Longitudinal Comprehensive Care is emphasized and is provided at our Geriatric Continuity Clinics (GCC) at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and the Family Medicine Center (FMC).
- Consultation Services are a source of continuous interaction with smaller community centers through the Geriatric Multidisciplinary Assessment Clinics (GMAC) at the Senior Health Center (SHC), the FMC, and the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) at Presbyterian Tower (PT).
- Home Care is delivered through the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) Program at the VAMC.
- Geriatric Neurology, Psychiatry, and Rehabilitation are part of both the Everett Tower (ET) Clinics and the VAMC rotations. In addition, an innovative large multidisciplinary Geropsychiatry Unit (Senior Choice) at PT is essential for the fellow's experience.
- Nursing Home Care with special attention to chronic care, assisted (catered) living, domiciliary and medical direction issues is learned through the VAMC Extended Care Unit (ECU) and Oklahoma Christian Home (OCH).
- General Primary Care experience is available through the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatric Medicine outpatient clinics.
- Psychosocial and Behavioral Medicine is emphasized in GCC and GMAC clinics by a team of PhD and Licensed Marital and Family Therapists (LMFT) working in conjunction with the physicians in a multidisciplinary approach.
