Geriatric Medicine Fellowship

Program Goals Education Clinical Training Facilities Application

 

The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship is a one-year program for physicians who are board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. The fellowship is designed to promote expertise in:

  • State-of-the-art Geriatric Clinical Care, both inpatient (hospital and nursing home) and outpatient
  • Aging-related Basic Sciences
  • Psychosocial Gerontological Issues
  • Rehabilitation

Each year up to four geriatric fellows will be accepted. Their responsibilities are divided as follows: 90 percent clinical care, and 10 percent teaching and administration. The program is designed to meet the needs of individual fellows, with the training preparing them for the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. An optional second year of training is available for a limited number of fellows to prepare them as clinician educators.

The Fellowship is directed by David O. Staats, MD.  Fellow responsibilities are divided as follows: 90 percent clinical care and 10 percent administration.

The Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is at the heart of health care for the State of Oklahoma.  Multiple clinical sites, both on campus and off, are engaged in the education of geriatric fellows.
