Oral Manifestations of Drug Therapy

• Erythemia Multiforme

• Glossitis or Stomatitis

  Occurs in the oral cavity as ulcers on the tongue or oral epithelium.  Drugs implicated in this condition include:

  • Anticoagulants
  • Barbiturates

   

• Hairy Tongue

  Elongation of the filiform papilla (threadlike elevations on the tongue surface).   Drugs implicated in this condition are:

  • Corticosteroids

  • Antibiotics

  • Anti-fungal
     

• Lichen Plannus

• Trigeminal Neuralgia

  Patients with this disorder display sharp, stabbing pain, aching teeth of lower jaw.  The pain may have a trigger point.  Drugs implicated with this condition include:

  • Beta Blocker
  • Tricyclic Antidepressants
  • Cardiac Glycosides
