Dr. Sonntag received an appointment at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC where he served for 23 years as Professor, Scientific Director for Basic Science Research at the Roena Kulynch Center for Memory and Cognition Research, and Scientific Director of the J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging. He is currently professor and the Donald W. Reynolds Chair of Aging Research as well as the Director of the Reynolds Oklahoma Center on Aging/Department of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Due to his commitment and passion for determining the causes of disease during the aging process, he has developed into a national and international figure in the study of aging. His record of publications in conjunction with the mentoring of numerous graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty gives evidence of his dedication to advancing the field of aging research, thereby, ultimately contributing to better health for the elderly. His accomplishments include the publication of more than 130 original manuscripts, medical school curriculum development and course directorship (medical physiology), the establishment of teaching portfolios, as well as service on a variety of national advisory committees, editorial boards, and study sections on aging. |
