NewsDr. Sonntag named Gerontological Society FellowDr. William Sonntag, ROCA Director, has been named a Fellow of the Gerontological Society. He will be awarded this honor at the Gerontological Society of America meeting later this month during the society's national conference in Atlanta. Dr. Sonntag speaking at Barshop Center for Aging and LongevityDr. William Sonntag has been invited to speak at the Barshop Center for Aging and Longevity at the University of Texas/San Antonio Health Science Center on November 4, 2009. His seminar topic will be "Paradoxical effects of growth hormone and IGF-1 on brain aging and age-related pathology". Dr. Andrej Podlutsky visiting ROCADr. Andrej Podlutsky from UT San Antonio Health Science Center is visiting the laboratories of Dr. Zoltan Ungvari and Dr. Anna Csiszar. Their collaboration deals with the effects of oxidative stress on different animals such as the bat, laboratory mice, deer mice, the marmoset and humans. Zoltan Ungvari, MD, PhD has accepted a position as Associate Professor and holds the Donald W. Reynolds Chair in Aging Research. Dr. Ungvari comes to Oklahoma from New York Medical College where he held the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology. The major emphasis of his research is in the area of cardiovascular aging with an emphasis on oxidative stress. Dr. Ungvari has published more than 80 manuscripts and is funded through NIH and the American Heart Association.
Anna Csiszar, MD, PhD has joined the ROCA program as a Research Assistant Professor. She was most recently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology at New York Medical College. Her research deals with oxidative stress in its relation to cardiovascular system. Dr. Csiszar has published more than 60 manuscripts and is funded through NIH and the American Federation of Aging Research. She is also a recipient of the 18th Annual Nathan W. Shock Lecture Award (NIH/HIA). Dr. Claudia B. Herenu visits from the National University of La Plata, ArgentinaClaudia Herenu, PhD has joined ROCA as a visiting researcher. She is a professor at the Institute of Biochemistry Research of La Plata (INIBIOLP). Her specialty area is IGF-1 gene therapy.
J. Paula Warrington, OCNS Graduate Student, receives honors at the Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience Symposium, September 17, 2009J. Paula Warrington, a graduate student in the Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience Program and completing her doctoral research with Dr. Sonntag at the Reynolds Oklahoma Center on Aging, received a travel award in recognition of her poster presentation entitled: Bone Marrow Endothelial Precursor Cells are Stimulated by Whole Brain Irradiation.
Dr. William E. Sonntag, Director, Reynolds Oklahoma Center in Aging, was an organizer and speaker at the 16th Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience Symposium (OCNS)William E. Sonntag, PhD participated in the OCNS symposium on September 17, 2009. His paper was entitled: Growth Hormone, IGS-1 and the regulation of Cognitive Function with Age. Dr. Sonntag was one of the major organizers of the event and received recognition for his work at the symposium banquet. Reynolds Oklahoma Center on Aging was a Platinum Sponsor of the event. |
