Graduate Student Association
The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center
Effective January 2005
Section
I
A. To fulfill the requirements of Article II of the
Graduate College Students' Association constitution, each
College on the University of
Oklahoma's Health Sciences Center must have an identified Graduate Student Organization.
B.
A College Graduate Student Organization will be considered recognized, by the
Association, if it
possesses the following:
1. University account;
2. An executive or organizational
body with a recognized president or chairperson; and;
3. A constitution approved by
the Provost of the Health Sciences Center campus.
C.
The Board shall serve as the sponsor of the Delta Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Lambda
(AEL), a national
honor society of Graduate and
Professional School Students. AEL promotes academic excellence and leadership.
AEL is awarded membership and a vote on the Board.
Section
II
A. The Board may vote by a quorum to approve funds for
activities that are specifically academic or organizational
in nature.
B.
Funding requests for activities that are not specifically organizational
or academic may be approved only by
a quorum consensus vote.
Section
III
A. A Board Member shall be a member or chair one of
the following standing committees:
1. The Graduate Research, Education,
and Technology Symposium Committee;
2. The Graduate Research, Issues,
and Awards Committee;
B.
The Graduate Research, Education, and Technology Symposium Committee
(GREAT) Shall:
1. Develop an itemized budget
for GREAT;
2. Solicit funds from the association
and other University funding sources; and;
3. Develop and implement a program
which allows Association Members to display research and review
the
research of other graduate students and faculty.
C. The Graduate Research, Issues, and Awards Committee
Shall:
1. Develop an itemized budget
for supporting graduate research related activities, excluding GREAT, and
investigation
and related action that pertains to Graduate student research issues.
Examples
of appropriate activities may include, but are not limited to:
Research
grants; Research Forums; Workshops; and Identification of Legislation affecting
graduate
research.
2.
Serve as the oversight committee for the Delta Chapter of AEL which shall include
budget and
membership
issues. The AEL will assist in sponsoring the annual Graduate Education Research
Day
activities
in order to fulfill the service project requirement as outlined in the AEL constitution.
Financial
support will be
provided by the Graduate Student Association.
3. Develop a budget and program for
recognizing outstanding academic achievement by graduate
students;
4. Provide representation on
the Graduate College Research and Graduate Student Affairs Committee
which oversees the
awarding of the Outstanding Thesis and Dissertation Awards.
Section
IV
A. The Graduate Student Association is responsible
for providing student representation from within the
Board or the Association on the following
University and Graduate Council committees:
1. Curriculum Review Committee
2. Graduate Faculty Appointments
Committee
3. Program Evaluation Committee
4. Graduate Student Appeals
Board - This committee requires student representation from each individual college.
5. Research and Graduate Student
Affairs Committee
6. Preparing Future Faculty
Committee
7. Student Counseling Advisory
Board
8. Library Advisory Board
9. The University of Oklahoma
Health Sciences Center Student Association
Section
V
A. The Association shall be funded by the Health Sciences
Center Graduate Students.
B. A portion of each graduate student's activity fee will
be equitably appropriated, by the bursar, to the
Association account.
