CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
The Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) and the Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center (OTRC) are developing a special supplement to the American Journal of Preventive Medicine (AJPM) entitled “Best Practices, Research, and Relationships – Oklahoma’s Investment in Tobacco Control.” The goal of the supplement is to showcase the unique contributions that the state of Oklahoma has made to tobacco control, and to provide information about effective strategies that may be useful in other states.

The Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center (OTRC) is soliciting applications for research grant funding for FY 2014. Applications are invited for small-scale research projects designed to move forward the field of tobacco-related research, which includes innovative research ideas and the collection of preliminary data that will enable investigators to compete successfully for national research grants. All levels of investigators are invited to compete, but preference will be given to Junior Investigators. A Principal Investigator (PI) is considered a Junior Investigator if he/she has not previously competed successfully as PI for a significant NIH independent research award (such as an R01).
OTRC expects to fund two to four proposals in FY14. Proposals are expected to have a maximum term of one year and maximum direct costs of $50,000. However, projects with larger budgets will be accepted for review if a sufficient rationale for the larger budget is included. While projects will be funded for a 12-month period (FY14), longer term projects may compete for an additional year of funding given successful completion of the first year.
This year’s call for proposals is specifically limited to clinical or population-based studies with direct relevance to the prevention and control of tobacco use or tobacco-related health outcomes. Only applications screened as relevant to this priority will be accepted for review.
A letter of intent (LOI) with a brief description of the proposal is required. These LOI submissions will be reviewed by the OTRC Scientific Advisory Committee and those identified as most relevant and promising will be invited to submit a complete proposal.
