Outside Links / Patient Support Groups

The pediatric hematology division at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas has an excellent program to care for children with ITP. The program is directed by Dr. George Buchanan. This website contains helpful information for children with ITP and their families.

The ITP Support Association is an active support group for patients with ITP in England. The ITP Support Association publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Platelet, and helpful brochures. Dr. James George and Dr. George Buchanan (Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Texas Medical School, Dallas) are active supporters of this group. Information may be obtained from the Association Co-ordinator, Mrs. Shirley Watson.

The ITP Support Association, 'Synehurste', Kimbolton Road, Bolnhurst, Beds. MK 44 2EW, Fax (01234) 376559, e-mail: shirley@itpsupport.org.uk

The NHLBI developed the diseases and conditions index (DCI) for patients and the public. The DCI contains health information, written in plain language, on diseases, conditions, and procedures related to ITP.

Amgen, Inc., a biotechnology company, has developed a comprehensive and educational website devoted to ITP.  It describes the basic abnormalities of ITP, how it is diagnosed, the goals of treatment, and resources for patient support.  The website has been developed with extensive consultation with hematologists who have experience in management of patients with ITP.  Although Amgen has a new product in development for treatment of ITP, this website is not a promotion.  It is a balanced discussion of all aspects of ITP for physicians; it will also have substantial value for patients.
