*As a result of the unprecedented disruptions in the credit markets and the steps taken by Congress and the Department of Education to provide financing solutions to lenders to enable them to continue in the federal student loan program, the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act (ECASLA) was passed. This allows lenders to sell 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 federal loans to the Department of Education if they choose to. Those loans may then be transferred to a loan servicer of the Department's choosing. When making your lender choice, please be aware that loans with your chosen lender may not be serviced by that lender or loan servicer for the life of the loan. However, if loans are sold or transferred, your lender is required, by federal disclosure laws, to notify you of this sale or transfer.
**If any of your 2008-2009 or 2009-2010 loans are transferred to a new loan servicer, this may result in what is referred to as split servicing. If this occurs, please be aware that you will need to be responsible for maintaining deferment or forbearance paperwork and/or your repayment status with each of the loan servicers who hold your loan(s).
