Plastic Surgery

The University of Oklahoma Plastic Surgery residency training program has one Plastic Surgery position. It is a combined position offered through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) as a 5-year total training program combining three years of general surgery and two years of plastic surgery at the University of Oklahoma. Only after fulfilling the prerequisite requirements for the American Board of Plastic Surgery is a resident eligible to advances into Plastic Surgery for the final two years. Residents in the combined general surgery/plastic surgery program rotate one to two months on the plastic surgery service throughout the first two years of their training.

During the average rotation, each resident assumes increasing responsibility in both peri-oerative and intra-operative patient care in all of the campus facilities. Residents are also expected to see patients in the plastic surgery clinics, attend grand rounds, conferences, and journal club.

The section of Plastic Surgery is actively involved in a number of specialized areas, including breast surgery and reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, limb salvage after trauma and aesthetic surgery. Dr. Kamal T. Sawan is the Section Chief for Plastic Surgery and specializes in breast surgery and body contouring. Dr. Mehdi Adham clinical interests are in hand surgery. Dr. Christian A.
