Outcomes

The Oklahoma University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) will focus its efforts from 2007-2012 on quality of life activities. Quality of life activities support people with developmental disabilities in their efforts to practice greater self-determination, and to expect consumer and family-focused planning. Quality of life activities include, expecting that people with disabilities will exert greater choice and control in their lives and will be welcomed with full inclusion and participation in the community. Through quality of life activities we expect that people with disabilities will experience an increase in their general satisfaction with, and access to, services and supports.

During the next five years, the Oklahoma UCEDD will target three areas where work products and outcomes should be visible to people with disabilities and their families, professionals, community members, and university faculty interested in quality of life improvements. We will invest work to achieve the following outcomes by 2012:

  1. Oklahoma has a family leadership model for enhancing the statewide family advocacy system.
  2. Oklahoma has a partnership model for community services that is implemented in multiple regions of the state.
  3. Oklahoma has a partnership model for preservice and continuing education that is implemented in multiple regions of the state.

Goals
The UCEDD of Oklahoma Five Year Plan (2007- 2012) emphasizes a partnership approach that involves individuals with disabilities, family members, students, and professionals in each of the five core area goals.

  1. Preservice and Continuing Education - Increase the capacity of the state to provide best practice information access and skills for interdisciplinary service provision and statewide systems change.
  2. Community Services - Increase the capacity of the state to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities through community training to improve knowledge, practices, and skills; technical assistance to improve systems, policies, programs and advocacy; family support services to improve access to community resources and services.
  3. Research - Increase the capacity of the state to conduct research and evaluation that involves individuals with disabilities and/or family members.
  4. Dissemination - Increase the capacity of the state to access information about disability issues, best practices, research findings, advocacy opportunities and the perspectives of individuals with disabilities and family members by developing and disseminating information and products, developing innovative methods for translating information into practice and by identifying best methods for reaching individuals and families with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  5. Organization -  Provide an infrastructure within the UCEDD that facilitates accomplishment of program goals and inclusive policies and procedures to sustain an effective organization
