The Commission on Cancer, a program of the American College of Surgeons, has recommended a full three-year accreditation for Stephenson Cancer Center at OU Medicine.

The Commission recently completed a site visit and survey and awarded the reaccreditation based on a rigorous assessment of the cancer center. The Commission reported no deficiencies and several specific strengths of Stephenson Cancer Center.

The Commission on Cancer is a national accreditation program that recognizes cancer care systems for their commitment to comprehensive, high quality, multidisciplinary and patient-centered care.

Among Stephenson Cancer Center’s specific strengths noted were high-quality pathology reports with 100 percent adherence to College of Pathology guidelines. In addition, the cancer center’s team received commendations for its exceptional tumor boards and outstanding cancer registry, led by Nancy Etzold, CTR, registry director, as well as Stephenson’s nationally recognized contributions to clinical trials.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to work with such dedicated colleagues,” said Katherine Morris, M.D., chair of Stephenson’s cancer committee. “Their efforts on behalf of our cancer center make a difference in the lives of current patients as well as contributing to improving care for future patients every day.”
