The Children’s Hospital Digestive Health Experts Offer Smoothie Class

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Jeanne Tung, M.D., pediatric gastroenterology specialist and director of the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program at The Children’s Hospital, will present a virtual smoothie workshop Tuesday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m.
Joined by pediatric digestive health expert Kendall Anderson, R.D., Tung will demonstrate ways to create nutritious smoothies and navigate key areas that support healthy digestive systems in children. These experts will share easy ways to increase the nutritional value of foods prepared at home and help parents understand signs or symptoms that may indicate the need for expert gastrointestinal care.
Topics will include:

* What a healthy plate looks like
* Daily calcium recommendations for children
* Dealing with dairy intolerance
* Fiber in children’s diets
* Differentiating between lactose intolerance and dairy allergies
* Differentiating between gluten intolerance and celiac disease
* Making vegetables more appealing to children
* The roles of digestive enzymes, prebiotics and probiotics
Different smoothie recipes will be presented for specific digestive health concerns:

* Enhance nutrition and increase fiber intake to help address constipation.
* Promote weight gain, especially for those with inflammatory bowel disease.
