Interdisciplinary Programs

Interdisciplinary programs transcend the boundaries of a single academic discipline. Typically they include persons from two or more fields working in concert to improve understanding, problem solving, analysis or issue resolution for improved results in teaching, research, patient care, or other services. Drawing on the knowledge and expertise of each field through interdisciplinary engagement enables fuller consideration of complex problems and more options tor action.

Association for Prevention Teaching & Research (APTR) Team

OUHSC interdisciplinary team of faculty working to develop an interdisciplinary approach to research, training, and fall prevention in the elderly.

Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Leadership

Oklahoma's federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) serves as the liaison between academic expertise and institutions of higher learning and service delivery systems to positively affect the lives of individuals with development disabilities and their families.

Harold Hamm Diabetes Center

Harold Hamm Diabetes Center (HHDC) serves as Oklahoma’s focal point for fighting the diabetes epidemic. Research, patient care, education and prevention are all required to address diabetes in a comprehensive manner. The Center was established by the University of Oklahoma in the College of Medicine with the goal of promoting the well-being of all people with or at high risk for diabetes in Oklahoma regardless of ethnic background or financial status.

Interprofessional Education and Practice Collaborative

In 2012, a group of committed faculty and administrators from the Colleges of Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Social Work were supported by the Wisdom Family Foundation to explore and develop potential opportunities for interprofessional education (IPE) of healthcare learners on the health sciences campus. This group, the Interprofessional Educators and Practitioners Association (IEPA), guides the development of campus-wide interprofessional didactic and clinical/practicum curriculum, interprofessional faculty development and training, and related research and scholarship.

Oklahoma LEND

An interdisciplinary leadership education program funded by the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau. It is centered on the evidence-based principles of family centered services, interdisciplinary teaming, cultural competence, and inclusive practices.

Oklahoma Shared Clinical & Translational Resources (OSCTR)

Funded by a 20.3 million dollar grant, the Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources (OSCTR) was formed to: Serve as a catalyst to facilitate clinical and translational research, Improve health for underserved and underrepresented populations living in rural areas, Provide clinical and translational research training and infrastructure to junior investigators, Expand opportunities for IDeA states and communities to participate in clinical and translational research, Improve the overall health of our citizens.

Peggy and Charles Stephenson Cancer Center

As noted on the Cancer Center's web site, members of the Cancer Center include faculty from OU Health Sciences Center, OU Norman, OU Tulsa, Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. These faculty conduct innovative and nationally-funded cancer research in the basic, clinical and population sciences. Regardless of discipline or home institution, all members of the Cancer Center share a common goal: reducing the morbidity and mortality caused by cancer in Oklahoma and beyond.

Preparing Future Faculty

The Preparing Future Faculty program (PFF) is a national movement to change the way aspiring faculty members are prepared for their careers. Our PFF program consists of a 2-hour fall semester and a 2-hour spring semester course. The program is designed for graduate students and postdoctoral research fellows interested in gaining the basic theory and skills necessary to be an effective communicator and educator and to have a mentored teaching experience.
