Healthy aging, healthy living.

Family Caregiver Training

Learn to care for those who need it most

Many older adults prefer to maintain their independence and lifestyle, choosing to remain in their homes. In order to help these older adults maintain a healthy life and environment, OHAI offers family caregiver training to instruct family members in essential in-home caregiver skills. OHAI's family caregiver training program is provided at various locations across the state and consists of one six-hour course that cover many essentials of daily living for older adults, such as:

  • Communication With Health Care Providers
  • Proper Use of Assistive Devices
  • Assistance With Meals
  • Body Mechanics
  • Dietary Needs
  • Infection Control
  • Medication Safety
  • Healthy Skin Maintenance
  • Personal Care
  • Chronic Disease Management

In addition, the training will address caregiver stress. Taking on the role of caregiver can take an emotional and physical toll, and we will provide caregivers tools and resources for managing the stress.
