General Information
The Stanton L. Young Biomedical Research Center (BRC) directly supports the research mission of the Health Sciences Center. The BRC is comprised of 233,000 gross square feet of space dedicated to biomedical, cancer and genetics research. The facility includes 48 research laboratories, core laboratories, BSL3 containment lab, vivarium and laboratory support spaces.
The research activity at the OUHSC continues to strengthen and grow, reflected by the amount of external funding awarded to OUHSC faculty. Growth in NIH, clinical trials, and non-profit awards drove the rise in funding over the past years. Even with today’s difficult funding environment where many institutions’ funding has been stagnant or in decline, OUHSC researchers continue to excel and expand our research programs.
Research facilities growth and development have been due to the tremendous growth in NIH support, major contributions from the Presbyterian Health Foundation (PHF) and the University Hospitals Trust, and recognition as an institution of emerging excellence. The establishment of two centers, including the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) and the PHS Native American Center of Excellence (COE), has enhanced the University's research position.
