5 Things HSC Students Need to Know This Week

Published August 18, 2020

  1. Outdoor Spaces
The HSC campus provides our community with a variety of outdoor spaces to visit. The Bird Library Veranda, the HSC Student Union East Patio, and the Stanton L. Young Walkway are just a few on campus. Each of these areas include tables and chairs to study outdoors, take a break, and enjoy a bite to eat. We recommend social distancing while outdoors.

  2. Food Options on Campus
Food services are available on campus, however social distancing protocols must take place. Additionally, hours have been adjusted to limit traffic.
    1. Beaker’s Food Court (located in the HSC Student Union) is open Monday – Friday for breakfast from 7 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
    2. Healthy Hearth (located in Stephenson Cancer Center) is open for breakfast 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    3. Children’s Cafeteria (located in The Children’s Hospital) from Monday – Friday 6 a.m. – Midnight and on the weekend from 6:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
    4. Kamp’s (located in The Children’s Hospital Atrium from Monday – Friday 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  3. Wash Up
According to the CDC, you can help yourself and your loved ones stay healthy by washing your hands often, especially during these key times when you are likely to get and spread germs: Before, during, and after preparing food, eating food, before and after caring for someone at home who is sick and before and after treating a cut or wound. You should also wash your hands after you have been in a public place and touched an item or surface that may be frequently touched by other people, such as door handles, tables, gas pumps, shopping carts, or electronic cashier registers/screens, etc. as well as before touching your eyes, nose, or mouth because that’s how germs enter our bodies. Of course, you probably know that because you are a HSC student!

  4. Upcoming: Welcome Week!
Join us next week for meet and greet events (outdoors, of course)  to grab snacks and meet HSC Student Affairs friends! All events require social distancing and will take place outdoors on campus. For detailed information, see here https://students.ouhsc.edu/Current-Students/Campus-Life/Student-Calendar/Event-Details/cab-welcome-week

  5. Updated Mask Policy
The masking policy was recently updated. Scarves, bandanas, gaiters, and buffs are not appropriate as mask alternatives and therefore cannot be worn on campus as mask replacements. Non-medical grade masks with valves may not be worn on campus without a surgical-style over-mask. Non-medical grade fabric masks continue to be allowed for some populations, as described in the OUHSC COVID-19 Return Plan. If you are in need of a surgical style mask, please visit either entrance of the HSC Student Union or HSC Student Affairs on the 3rd floor of the Union. Not sure, just call HSC Student Affairs (405) 271-2416.
