5 Things HSC Students Need to Know This Week

Published August 25, 2020

  1. HSC WELCOME WEEK
We want to meet you and your mask. Join us this week for fun and snacks, but no hand shakes!
    1. Tuesday, Aug. 25, Noon - 1 PM - Pizza on the Patio on the east side of the HSC Student Union
    2. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 4 - 5:15 PM- HSC1 Welcome on the Bird Library Veranda
    3. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2- 3:30 PM - Sun and Snacks on the east side of the HSC Student Union
  2. STUDY SPACES
As you get back into the swing of studying, you may be wondering what spaces are available on campus! The 3rd and 4th floors of the Bird Library allow for perfect social distancing, large tables to spread out, and plenty of outlets for your devices. Various spots and rooms are available in the HSC Student Union, too. When the spaces are not reserved, all students are welcomed to use. Check out building websites for more information.
  3. HSC 1 SMALL GROUPS
HSC1 is adding a new dynamic this year; first-year cohorts! All first-year students, based in OKC, will be placed into a cohort of less than 25 students from all 7 health professional colleges. If you’re a first year student, you will be in a group, named after a US National Park, that has a couple of tour guides to help you navigate your first-year journey here at HSC. Each cohort will be led by 2 HSC Crimson Club members who will serve as campus ambassadors and guides. These cohorts are designed to assist first-year students in connecting socially across campus and promote interdisciplinary partnerships through team-based events and some friendly competitions between groups. Be on the lookout for an email from your group mentors in the coming weeks!
  4. READ UP
Did you know HSC has a one-stop shop resource website available for COVID-19 updates? Visit www.ouhsc.edu/coronavirus to stay updated on our campus policies, response, and resources in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Resources such as the Center for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) and the World Health Organization (www.who.int) are updated daily and helpful when staying up to date with the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  5. COMPUTER ENCRYPTION
HSC students are required to have their personal laptops encrypted by HSC-IT to participate in clinical and practicum related coursework. If you have not yet had your computer encrypted, please visit https://it.ouhsc.edu or call 405-271-2203 to schedule a time to do so.
